Jeans are one of those things that are universal; no matter where you are in the world, you are guaranteed to find people drinking Coca-Cola and people wearing jeans (and sometimes both at the same time). There must be tens of billions of pairs of jeans in the world, but it may not surprise you to hear that the modern day jean and the original denim jeans have grown further apart on recent years.
Partly due to demand and the need for cheaper jeans, many manufacturers in the world make jeans with very little, or even no, denim in them at all. It is denim that gives jeans their hard wearing rough and tough feel, and makes them last so long. Pick up a cheaper pair of jeans made of cotton or synthetics, and it won't be long before you've worn a hole through the crotch and scuffed the bottoms to shreds.
It's because of the inundation of these cheaper, lower quality, jeans that there now needs to be much more emphasis on quality and durability when you are looking for a new pair of work jeans. When we talk about work jeans, we don't mean the skinny jeans you can wear to the office on a dress down Friday, but the hard wearing and long lasting jeans you need to survive a day outside in the elements, hauling and lifting and being around heavy machinery or sharp tools.
Not only do you need a pair of jeans that are going to last you longer than a week when you're working outside, but you need a pair of reliable work jeans that are not going to rip and fray when under stress; you can think of work jeans as a trusty suit of armor for when you are earning money with your hands.
So if you're looking for new work jeans, or suggestions for what make a good pair, take a look around our site. We have reviews* of some of the more hard wearing styles*, and a section listing some jeans broken down by price bracket.
